“Love, Death & Robots” The Most Unhinged Anthology on Netflix Returns with Vol 4
If Black Mirror had a chaotic younger sibling who drank too much Red Bull and got into animation, it would be Love, Death & Robots.

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who’ve had Love, Death & Robots melt their brains in the best possible way… and those who still have that pleasure ahead of them. If you’re in the latter group, congratulations — your future just got a lot more disturbing. And if you’ve been here since the beginning, mark May 15 on your calendar because Netflix’s wildest, weirdest, and most beautifully deranged animated anthology is back with a fourth installment.
A love letter to chaos (and occasionally, cats)
First unleashed in 2019 like some caffeinated fever dream from the mind of David Fincher (which, let’s be honest, it sort of is), Love, Death & Robots has been delighting and horrifying audiences with its bite-sized episodes ever since. Each chapter — often clocking in under 20 minutes — is its own standalone short film, ranging from hyper-stylized sci-fi to dark comedy, fantasy, and straight-up horror. Think Black Mirror meets Heavy Metal, but with fewer rules and more robot spiders.
Over three previous seasons (or "volumes," as Netflix insists on calling them), we’ve seen sentient yogurt take over the world, three snarky robots on a post-human sightseeing tour, an army of zombie-werebear soldiers, and a vacuum cleaner that absolutely hates you. And that’s not even scratching the surface.
Despite the title, not every episode contains all three elements — love, death, or robots — but you’re usually guaranteed at least one of them. Occasionally all three show up, throw a party, and leave your jaw on the floor.
Why you should care
The genius of Love, Death & Robots lies in its unpredictability. You never know what genre you’re going to get. One episode might be a bleak meditation on AI and consciousness; the next might feature a farmer mech-battle against interdimensional pests, animated like a Saturday morning cartoon for nihilists. And that’s the point. It’s a creative playground where some of the world’s top animators, directors, and writers are let loose with zero supervision and a Netflix budget.
Volume 4 promises more of this glorious chaos. Netflix hasn’t dropped much in the way of spoilers (because let’s face it, half the joy is not knowing what’s coming), but we do know that fan-favourite directors are returning, and the trailer hints at more mind-bending visuals, surreal storytelling, and possibly, more of those chatty apocalypse robots.
Bite-sized brilliance
If your attention span is fried by social media and you can barely commit to a movie, Love, Death & Robots is your saviour. You can binge an entire season in one evening and still have time for an existential crisis before bed. And while not every episode will be your cup of cyberpunk tea, the series thrives on its variety. Even the weaker entries usually have something visually striking or conceptually bold to offer.
Put simply: it’s never boring. Check out the trailer below.
Love, Death & Robots Season 4 drops May 15, just in time to ruin your sleep schedule.
